High School Placement Test

The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is required for all 8th graders planning to attend a Catholic High School in the Archdiocese of Detroit.  Students must list Divine Child as one of their two choices to be considered for admission.

Partial academic scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen who score exceptionally well on the November or December High School Placement Tests and have excellent grades.  While students who take the February or March HSPT are not eligible for academic scholarships, these students can still be considered for the Archdiocese of Detroit need-based tuition assistance grants.

2016-2017 High School Placement Test (HSPT) Dates

Registration for the four main test dates for this year has ended.  Please contact Matt Saxer, Director of Admissions, at 313-216-0891 x268 regarding testing options.

2017-2018 High School Placement Test (HSPT) Dates

Current 7th grade students who want to attend Divine Child as freshmen should test on one of these dates during their 8th grade year:

  • Main date: Saturday, November 18 from 8 – 11:45 a.m.
  • Make-up date: Saturday, December 2 from 8 – 11:45 a.m. (also for students needing testing accommodations)

Online registration for these tests begins September 15.

Test Scores

Please note the High School Placement Test scores are just one factor considered as part of our admissions process. Strong consideration is given to 7th and 8th grade performance both academically and behaviorally, and each principal and/or 8th grade teacher is contacted personally by our Admissions Office.  What the applicant says about him/herself on the Application for Admission is also helpful information.

The HSPT scores are used to help place students in the appropriate class level to provide academic challenge and growth. Further honors placement testing will be offered in the Spring.
